i say “im gay” a lot for someone who is pan

You should probably stop???

wild idea: don’t call yourself gay if ur not

wild idea: gay people have monopolized every aspect of LGBTQA+ life including issues and accomplishments, you never hear “the pansexual marriage debate” on the news, you never hear about lesbian homeless youth, you never hear about transgender workplace discrimination! you hear the word “gay” over and over again, every other sexual orientation and gender identity is completely erased! white gay men have somehow become the face of our community so if other queer people assimilate into that! and call ourselves what they call themselves in order to feel like we have a place! within our OWN community! it’s not really our fault, white gays have made everything about themselves since forever and now all of a sudden they wanna say we’re appropriating the word “gay” by calling ourselves that??? doesn’t make much sense.

here’s an even wilder idea: “qu**r” people can still be homophobic! and this post takes the cake. it’s not gay people’s fault that most people use the term as a catch-all for lgbt, but frankly, if we (non-gay lgbt people) are going to complain about being erased, we need to stop calling ourselves gay when we’re not! Especially considering that calling yourself gay when you’re attracted in any capacity to the opposite sex promoted the idea that gay people are just choosing their sexuality, which is so homophobic. Also, the examples you cited are bullshit. First of all, lesbians, being female homosexuals, reserve the right to call themselves gay, and you hear about homeless lgbt+ youth other than “white gays” all the time. Also, the majority of bisexual (and I’d assume, by extension, pansexual) people end up married to the opposite sex, so why would they need “same sex marriage” (which, btw, is used a lot more than gay marriage and works for people of all sexual orientations just fyi)? also, you do hear about transgender workplace discrimination/other trans issues with increasing frequency, but either way, being trans is not a sexual orientation in the way that being gay/bi/asexual is.

Finally, it is extremely disingenuous to act like “white male gays” don’t undergo any discrimination. Yes, they have privilege on axes of maleness and whiteness, but gay men have been the subject of homophobia for literally centuries. And if you don’t believe me, I have two words for you: AIDS crisis. That’s just the tip of the iceberg. Gay people–yes, those darn evil monosexuals–often live in constant fear of physical violence and legal discrimination. To say anything otherwise is in itself an act of homophobia.
